Cole Vanderheiden enjoys strong Chili Bowl Nationals debut
Cole Vanderheiden made his debut at the 39th annual Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink this past week, driving the Kyler Johnson Racing No. 45V entry as he took on the Tulsa (OK) Expo Center.
Vanderheiden kicked off his preliminary night in impressive fashion on Friday, firing on all cylinders as he outran Wout Hoffmans in his heat race to capture the eight-lap victory. Earning a front-row spot for his qualifier, Cole advanced into Friday’s preliminary feature with a solid runner-up finish. Though he slipped to third early in his heat race, Vanderheiden quickly found his rhythm on the bottom groove, rallying back to finish in second.
Starting 10th for the A-Main, Vanderheiden's promising night came to a frustrating halt as he encountered terminal engine issues while running in eighth, ultimately ending his strong start.
After Friday night’s heartbreaking setback, Vanderheiden was slated to race in the E-Main early Saturday morning. However, the lack of time to swap motors ultimately ended his rookie run at the Chili Bowl Nationals.
