Vanderheiden finishes fourth at Norman County, fifth at Red River Valley

A four-race weekend in the Upper Midwest kicked off for Nebraska’s Cole Vanderheiden with Thursday’s King of the Wings event at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota.

Vanderheiden opened the night with a strong performance, outrunning pole starter Owen Carlson to win his heat race before finishing fourth in the feature. He trailed Tye Wilke, Jeremy Kerzman, and Brady Donnohue to the checkered flag, with Dylan Waxdahl completing the top five.

After weather forced a change to Friday’s plans, Vanderheiden shifted to Red River Valley Speedway, where he began the doubleheader weekend with a ninth-place finish in the feature.

Returning to the North Dakota oval on Saturday, Vanderheiden showed improvement, charging from fourth to first in his heat race before recording a solid fifth-place finish in the 20-lap feature.

Vanderheiden’s weekend ended prematurely on Sunday at Buffalo River Speedway when rear-end issues forced him to retire on the second lap.
